To all Les Miz, Horatio Hornblower and/or Richard Sharpe fans.

Interesting observations I made at work and upon contemplating my friends list.

Observation 1: There are a fair number of hardcore Les Misérables fans. (To note, 'hardcore' is used to mean, actually is familiar with the book and with the fact that Enjolras is hot. Really hot. And that Marius Pontmercy, in all reality, was not best friends with Eponine. Oh, and that Eponine had two other sisters.)

Observation 2: About 75% of these fans, I believe, appear to also be fans of Horatio Hornblower (book and/or movie version).

Observation 3: Fans of Horatio Hornblower, approximately 60%, gravitate toward the Richard Sharpe series by Bernard Cornwell. This is probably the most understandable of transitions as Mr. Cornwell, a huge fan of C.S. Forester and his Horatio Hornblower series, decided to write Sharpe's Eagle (the first book) upon completing the series. Newspaper reviews refer to the Sharpe Series as "The Horatio Hornblower of the British Army."

Observation 4: Despite how big of a fan of Sharpe these Hornblower/Sharpe fans are, they tend to believe Hornblower to have the greater quality. So there.

Observation 5: Somehow, 70% of these fans are slash fans. And if they read and are a fan of all three of these series, they tend to be French Revolution/Age of Sail geeks. (I am too.)

Observation 6: About 40% of the above believe Robespierre/Saint-Just is canon law. My boss, Gail, is of this opinion.

Observation 7: I am a dork for simply writing this out. But so there.

Thank you for your attention.
