Cheuvront Business lunch

Feb 21, 2008 00:29

I went to Cheuvront today in downtown Phoenix more for a table to sit at then really lunch but I thought I would try out the food and the wine.
It was quite a good experience so I thought I would note it.

As the paragraph implies, it is primarily a wine and cheese bar located just South
of Mcdowell on Central. (southbound side for parking which is ample) It has a
new sort of decor, a blend of Sonoma baby vineyards, and kick of asian and
swedish materials which actually also describes much of the menu. The food
that I got was green chili with avocado and a flat Italian bread with herbs and
cheeses melted on top which oddly enough went very well with the flight of wine
I selected, Cheuvronts Favorite. My favorite as well after having tried it. For the uninitiated a quick explanation of a flight, is that it is a grouping of three wines
(usually three) which complement each other and which represent a smaller field
of vision in your tasting. This is really good for people going dutch or for people
who aren't necessarily worried about money. Wine flights are where the bar can
really make some money. If you go with a group, stick to bottles.

They do have happy hour and they do serve stronger spirits, their bar enjoying the presence of the entire Cruzan and Three Olives collections.
If Wednesday between 4and 6 is any reference however, happy hour is only as
happy as you are because you very likely will be the only one imbibing in the
seated portion of the restaurant. The bar itself had two very nice older ladies
but if we wanted to go to a retirement home, well we would put a bar in one.
As I wrapped up on the last bit of business for the day, a warm glow set in from
the reds in the flight. We shall definitely do this again.

Favorite Wine of the Day
Pascual Toso Reserve
2005 Malbec
(Argentina)
at 16 a bottle it is much better priced than its 2004 sister.
