On a more serious note, the
women's mini marathon is in exactly one week. As many of you are aware, I'm once again taking part in it, this time for
Arthritis Ireland.
I'll admit, my training hasn't gone as well as I'd hoped, but I still aim to do better than last years time (that was just over 2 hours).
You can find more information about Arthritis on the website, but the following is my own experience of it.
Everyone in my family bar me has this disease. I think the only reason I haven't gotten it so far is because I haven't broken any bones *touch wood*, but with the amount I use my hands for sewing and craft work, I think it's pretty much guaranteed that I'll get it at some point. There's no cure for arthritis. Treatments yes, mostly painkillers, steroids, and the like, but no cure. My mother, who suffered it most in our family, was told that although there's no cure, it does just go away eventually. It just burns itself out. But by the time that happens, your bones have been warped so badly in the course of the disease, that you remain in constant pain for the rest of your life, and the only option become joint replacement, which really isn't an option for everybody.
"The Arthritis Foundation of Ireland is the only national charity dedicated to further research, education and community care for this all too common disease - 1 out of every 7 citizens has some form of Arthritis."
So please, if you're able, please help me to raise money for this cause. I know there are hundreds of deserving charities out there, but this year, this is the one which matters most to me.
