Quilting projects
Here are a few images of projects I have been working on - some have been lying around waiting to be bound/photographed for a while now whereas some are quite recent.
First up, two baby quilts I made a few months back. I only got around to finishing the handsewing on the owl quilt last night. The other one I just forgot to take piccies of (hence the crease you can see, it has been stored a while)!
This first one is the "Owl and the Pussycat" baby quilt in all its technicolour glory. I love the Amy Butler owl print from the "On a Whim" range.
This one is another baby quilt which uses a pack of charm squares (an assortment of 5" squares from a range of material). It is an Oh Fransson! pattern and the charm squares I used are called "Love U". It's a super quick and easy project so I don't mind if this quilt gets a little more abuse - despite being largely white!
This one is probably the most involved quilt I have made so far...It was done as part of a class and is a sampler rather than a pattern as such. The idea was to learn how to traditionally make measured and precise blocks of classics like "Fence and Rail", "9 Patch", "Broken Dishes" and "Log Cabin". These are the ones in the orange frames on the quilt. Set around them are the "cut loose" versions which are contemporary, freestyle takes on the traditional blocks. Much easier to produce and much more fun! I made a lap quilt for my sister in law's 30th birthday and have loosely called it "My Favourite Things" as she loves turquoise and pink and many of the whimsical fabrics used are some of her loves including an Eiffel tower fabric for Paris, cupcakes for her love of baking, cats and other animals and so on. I love the calmness of the backing too as I think the front is quite audacious. :) I hope she loves it as much as I do...
Finally the last of the VQB blocks.
The brief was to use the floral material and the paisley either alone or with complementary materials from the same palette range. The theme was "Adventure" and we were encouraged to try something new. I incorporated the turquoise bubbles and the cream print to make a "Jaipur" block inspired by Jinny Beyer's design. My adventure was based on the name (well, it's exotic :)) and the fact I am working on drafting manageable patterns based on squares and half square triangles from the nightmare that are Jinny Beyer patterns.
