I got my advanced copy of the Disc Golf World News today. 42 of my pictures are in there plus I think a few were re-run from previous issues as "stock" photos. They often don't credit all of them. I think sometimes the publisher doesn't keep very good track after he has used them the first time. Most of the pictures are from the Women's Nationals in Fall of '03. It's a quarterly magazine, so stuff from Fall '03 is still "new".
I am pleased that he ("he" being the publisher) used so many of my pictures. One of the pictures I took of Tree at the tournament was run, so I'm happy about that. He also mentions my work in the article and he sent me free stuff with my advance copy of the magazine.
However, not all of the shots that he chose to run are my best and I don't like the way he cropped some of them. Also, even though this tournament is a major, he didn't run the article in the color section of the magazine and all of the pictures are fairly small. I thought that I had some good candidates for a cover picture but he opted to run a picture from the "Men's" Nationals (it's not really called that, but only one woman has ever played the "open" version of Nationals) rather than Women's Nationals. At least its a good picture. I would have felt worse had he run a bad picture on the cover rather than one of my good ones.
Overall I am pleased. My talent for taking disc golf pictures is growing. I have been a good photographer for quite some time, but I just started, in the last two years, to meld my photography and disc golf hobbies. This year I'd like to pursue more ways to make money with my photography talent, but I haven't identified any other opportunities yet...keeping my eyes open though.
