It's almost REALLY back!
Took the Boy to his first hockey game ever tonight, when the Stars faced the Lightning. I was actually really impressed with him. He's a California boy, and not even from one of the cities that has a team (he's from San Diego). He told me he knew very little about hockey. I gave him a sort of mini-education ("See those guys? They get the puck over there. Those other guys have to stop that from happening." Except a little less dumbed-down) over the past month or so.
So we go to the game, and suddenly he's just as into it as I am, shrieking when someone makes a sloppy turnover, chanting "Turco", and jumping up FASTER THAN I DID when we scored a goal. The only things I had to explain were offsides and icing.
The best part? When we got home, he was all "...So, when's the next game we can watch? TV or live?" And he seemed REALLY disappointed when I told him "October 3". And he started doing the same thing I do with hockey, which is talking about it almost romantically. Well, sort of, I guess - he talked about loving the sound when a player makes a sudden stop, and the sound of the puck hitting the stick, or watching the players float along the ice. I can't wait for him to hear that either devastating or relieving sound of a puck off the crossbar.
