US to offer more flights to Cuba

Nov 07, 2011 13:11

In AP Economics (which doubles as our current events class, like it or not) we discussed the implications of nine US airlines offering charter flight to Cuba, bringing the number from three to twelve. The reason for this is that Americans who have family in Cuba would like to go back to visit their relatives, friends, homeland, etc. Now, Cuba and ( Read more... )

This is very interesting. I'm surprised and very impressed they're doing this. It is possible they're trying to rebuild/build friendly relations, make new friends for the future. The Castro government can't last forever. This could be a plot to get close, get to the Cuban people, and then start a revolution to overthrow the government. I've always wanted to take over Cuba.

Cuba's famous for their cigars. I dunno why, but they are. I've never had one, but I have an empty box. :'D;;;;

=^..^=~

Try to overthrow the government again?! After the epic fail that was the Bay of Pigs invasion? XD But you know, I always thought Cuba wanted nothing to do with is and we are the same. But Obama, for all his faults, has been much better at managing international relations with others, which was a definite weakness of Bush - the Slovakia/Slovenia mix-up automatically comes to mind XD I don't know, after a 10 year long haul in Iraq, I'm not keen on invading anyone else for a loooooooong time :P

I just think Cuba's a nice little island. I wouldn't mind owning it. Although I was told that Iceland had been up for grabs on Ebay. Damn my lack of income.

Each president has had their faults and victories. Not all of them had relations in mind; not all had war on the mind; not all consider economics. [I'm really tired of people making comparisons of presidencies, as if they should all be the same and be such angels. They do the best they can; they are men, not machines.]

In perfect honesty, I'm all for basically saying "Fuck you, world. We're taking our ball and leaving." We're damned if we do, damned if we don't in terms of foreign relations. Why not focus more attention on our own people? We have our own problems, and while it's great to want to open communications so we can talk to friends and families in our homelands, there are more important issues.

I somehow didn't see this floating around my Inbox even though it was posted 5 days ago >____> Sorry about that.

True, because each presidency has faced unique situations and they dealt with them with the nation's best interests in mind, or so we hope. At the same time, I think everyone is entitled to their opinion of "so-and-so was better when it came to economics", or "so-and-so was amazing at getting us through such-and-such-war". Presidents are humans that we hold up to unbelievable standards, knowing that they will fall short but hoping that they will be able to leave our nation in a better state then when they entered the office. In my opinion a President should always have relations, war, economics, etc. in mind, whether they choose to make it the main focus of their presidency or not is up to them ( ... )

Of course they're entitled to their opinions, but that doesn't mean I can't be annoyed with them. There are good and bad things about every president or political figure, depending on your stance. I think they all have tried to have the country's interests at heart, but priorities or personal beliefs just got in the way.

Cutting ourselves off entirely isn't the way to go, no, but let's take a break, yea? We can't help anyone if we can't help ourselves. If our country dies while trying to help some other country, it was pointless. Because we're dead. That causes more bad feelings. If only money wasn't the issue. Money makes the world go 'round, but we've been in debt since before we even became a country. That's pretty nuts. I wonder where the money all went.

Although with some political figures, even if they do have the country's best interests at heart, you have to wonder how capable/intelligent they are...I know there are some people I really wouldn't want at the helm all things considered xD

Yeah, that's why the GOP is pretty dead-set on not giving Italy any help, which I agree on as well because that's what they have the Eurozone for, right? And we're not part of that Eurozone so we can just go fix our own economy now, tyvm xD Why is the rum money always gone?

Yea...someone like me, for example, should never run a democratic country. |D Means to the end would not be all that acceptable, I'm sure. Thus why we have voting; let the people vote for the lesser of the dumbasses running. 8Db It's our choice of idiots!

I'm afraid our economy is unfixable right now, with these state issues. =3= Fixing bits and pieces of the whole doesn't seem to be working.

I would never run for office either, I think it would drive me crazy every time the Senate cockblocked me (seriously, that's such a good word for it) and things like that.

/sob. You're right, what works for one state doesn't seem to work for another, obviously, but it's just ridiculous if you think about it "B(

Also, I'm really glad that we have these political talks, especially when we have different opinions because I think its so important for people to listen to each other like this ; 3; So I hope you like them too :3

I would have too many violent or iffy solutions. Like the homeless and starvation of the nation? Feed the homeless to the hungry. I support it.

I do like them. I'm not big into politics, so I can only speak generally about what I do know, but talking it out gets more political ideas and understanding out there. You're easier to talk to than my papa. ;u; You don't preach and condemn like he does.

I'm glad you get that impression from me, because when people talk about politics it's really easy for others to be judgmental and I hope to not be that way ; 3;
