So yes this weekend was lotsa hippy fun and despite the 26 hours straight of rain I wish it were longer! I saw some really amazing music. Blues Traveler were awesome. Jon Popper is a lot thinner now since he got the Carnie Wilson but his voice still way good. Original P-Funk kicked ass as expected even though I heard they smoke crack. There was also this great band that I'd never heard of called Sound Tribe Sector 9. Do yourself a favor and listen to them, they rock. They're like electronic-rock type, I'm not good with placing bands in genres. I think my favorite show was The Wailers. Peter and I danced almost the whole time, and he initiated most of it! Ziggy sounds just like his dad, it was beautiful. They didn't do Redemption Song, but I guess maybe that's a good thing since it was such a happy atmosphere and the song is so sad. And of course there was more (like Guster- my second time, Courtney and Emily, remember Starfest?)
The camping aspect was fun too despite the wetness and actually having to sleep on top of my soaked sleeping bag. The campfire was so yummy. It was worth the tar smoke in our eyes. I roasted my socks on a few occasions to dry them out. Oh oh and the food we brought was really really good. Danielle makes really really REALLY good jambalaya! And of course there were many a s'more.
Also, I got to know Erin, Deran, and Ryan better. And Deran's friend Steve came, thank God, he knows everything about camping and was prepared for all our disasters. He was also pretty cool.
At night there were drum circles, and I even played! I now appreciate the bongo drums more. There were people playing other instruments too and dancing around the huge fire. I'm pretty sure I saw some people playing from the bands that day. At one point the second night the clouds cleared for a second and the moon was visible, and everyone stopped, looked up, and cheered. The whole thing was timeless.
It was very different from other concerts I've been too. Livestock, for instance, has cops frisking everyone each time they enter the concert area. There were seriously like 5 cops total at this concert, and probably thousands of attendees. I guess they were just going to let everyone smoke their pot in peace. That's the way it should be.
Well now I'm back to the reality of UF, but I have my fun here. This weekend has tempted me into becoming a rainbow person (rainbow people = hippies that live in the woods) but then again I like TV and showers so nevermind.
