More Car Angst

I repeat my first significant LJ entry: Do not buy a Jetta.

Yesterday evening the check engine light came on. My optimistic assessment is either the gas cap, some sensor somewhere, or an emissions value or other thingy. It did and does not seem to affect the running of the car. I hope this is correct, since I must travel. (This is not a time of year that I can work from home with no notice.) It was not the gas cap. On the way home from work, I stopped at an auto parts place and had the nice employee read out the diagnostic code. The resutls were six words, either noun or adjective. I'm not entirely sure which ones are which. "Engine Coolant Temp Circuit High Input". My guess is this means a sensor is broken without my permission. The car acts normally, as does the temperature gauge. As does the mechanical thermostat, so far as I can tell.

Tomorrow I get to talk with the fun people at the dealership - again. Thank goodness I got the extended warranty. I crossed the magic number of miles (36,000) just a few months ago.
