Next Wednesday night, Milky Way in JP is hosting a pretty jam-packed and crazy-sounding Queen tribute show. I love crazy and I love Queen, so I'm planning on being there.
If anyone wants to join me, let me know! Details below from the
Big Moves calendar listing.

Queen for a Day
September 5th, 2007
9:00 PM - 11:30 PM
Milky Way Lounge & Lanes, Jamaica Plain
$8 in advance, $10/door
Description: On the solemn yet rockin' occasion of Freddie Mercury's birthday, Big Moves rolls out a star-studded Queen tribute show that’s gonna blow your hair back and leave you begging for more.
Big Moves has become known in Boston for its exciting, mixed-genre dance and performance revues. In Queen for a Day, we go beyond exciting into manic, with new numbers from Thick (Big Moves’ burlesque troupe) and Caravan of Curves (our belly dance ensemble). After all, no Queen show would be complete without a bunch of fat-bottom girls! And the celebration is loaded with guest artists whose on-stage bravado matches our own:
- Gunpowder Gelatine, an all-girl Queen cover band whose members have rocked an impressively long list of local groups, including the Ultrasonic Rock Orchestra, Mercury Charm Offensive, Commodore Vic, Mood Swings Orchestra
- Babes in Boinkland, a burlesque troupe whose faces are as fresh as their stage antics are frisky. Yes, this no-holds-barred babefest is related to the notorious Boink magazine.
- Becca d’Bus, one of Boston’s glammest, trashiest drag queens, taking a break from her spots at TraniWreck and Jaded for a star turn with Bohemian Rhapsody … in Chinese.
Bring your one-dollar bills, because tipping will be encouraged!
Proceeds from the rock ‘n’ roll raffle will benefit Community Servings, a nonprofit organization serving good food to people who are homebound with HIV/AIDS and other acute life-threatening illness (visit www.servings.org for more info). And yes, there will be cake.
