After the clock ticked over from November 30th to December 1st, NaNoWriMo was officially over. And in my mind, the Christmas season had officially begun! I celebrated by watching A Muppet Christmas Carol, definitely my favorite Christmas movie. I don't know why I listed Christmas Eve on Sesame Street as my favorite last year when I posted the holiday quiz on here; clearly I had a brain fart. It must've been longer since my last viewing of A Muppet Christmas Carol than I'd thought, because I noticed so many smart jokes that I didn't previous times. They even fit in a lesson on economics!
Somewhat paraphrased:
[Gonzo and Rizzo the Rat are trying to sell apples from a cart on the street; Rizzo is munching on them loudly]
Rizzo: Get 'em while they last!
Gonzo: They won't last long the way you're eating them.
Rizzo: I'm creating scarcity, drives the prices up.
This is a great example of how children's entertainment can slip in fun little lessons that kids might not take in consciously (and might not even take in subconsciously) but add value to the product's entertainment value for adults. If only more people would see this and not be so dismissive of children's and young adult offerings. (Yes personal interest resides in this lament.)
Other than that, I haven't been doing much. Still catching up on industry blogs, if you can believe it. I'm sleeping a lot and reading a lot. It's so dark and so cold, my interest in Doing Things wanes and waxes several times a day but usually my laziness wins out. My sleep schedule was messed up to begin with and yesterday was my last day of taking antibiotics, so I guess those are my excuses, I mean, explanations. I hope it will get better. I really want this to be a productive month for me.
