So you know how people often say "I wouldn't wish that on my worst enemy?" Well, the one girl in High School I couldn't stand with a passion, was the only person I never said that about. Not only did she make my life miserable from middle school through high school, right before our 10 year reunion, she claimed her daughter had Leukemia and did all these fundraisers in her daughter's honor. Over $15,000 alone was raised AT the reunion (we have 2 musicians, an actor and a pro ball player in our class)!
In reality, her 6 kids (at the time with 8 possible fathers), were all perfectly healthy, and it came out that she had scammed A LOT of people out of money because 2 of the kids father's had taken her to court for full custody, her support checks were cut off, and welfare cut her off for whatever reason. So her money train had dried up and she could no longer live the lifestyle she had been accustomed to her whole life! Personally I didn't blame her folks (who were good friends with mine) for cutting her off after her 4th kid and 2nd failed marriage before she was 21!
Well people had been saying at the time this all broke that they couldn't believe she did this and they wouldn't wish it on their worst enemy. I said "Oh, I do! Caroline deserves what she put her daughter through and much more!"
Since then, she has "grown up". She finally settled down, has been married to the same guy for the last 7 years (who is a Large Animal Veterinarian), has started her own company (making jewelry from horse hair) which apparently is doing very well, and not only paid back all the money that had been donated, but donates and volunteers for various children cancer groups.
Well as we're planning our 20 year reunion for next year, I learned that Caroline can't organize it this year because she was hit with both Stage 4 breast cancer and Non-Hodgkin lymphoma! Now some people (including me) thought she's faking this, but no, this is legit.
After ignoring her 100th friend request on Facebook (I don't care if she's trying to make amends, I don't need her in my life virtual or otherwise), I was looking through her photos. Other than money, the only thing Caroline cared about was her looks. So when I saw photos of her after her double mastectomy and bald, then her parents with "Team Caroline" shirts at a Walk for the Cure event, I relented that it was true.
But IMHO she deserved it! I probably shouldn't be dancing for joy, but oh well! What comes around, goes around!
