Another brilliant chapter, though no surprise there. Add me to the list of those delighted to see it's grown an additional chapter!

I love the idea that Jack has a little plan of his own here.

He’d have to look after her. He was very good at looking after species and races of people, less accomplished with them in small numbers, particularly the smallest number of all. Jack knew that, and that was why he’d dumped them together and vanished.

For Jack, of all people, to do this to him had a certain irony about it.

Yes, he knows only too well that the Doctor is pretty bad at commitment, and right now he's running scared. So, yes, leaving him alone with Donna is definitely make-or-break time. Incidentally, the line before that, about the first time Donna wondered if she could really trust him - that was a gut-punch.

Some lovely gems in the conversation here, from the inconsequentials to the Torchwood/Jack/conman discussion to Donna's place in his life. Loved her admitting that she didn't want to be left with the 'babysitter' - and I somehow can't see her in Torchwood, really - and Donna, even without most of her memories of the Doctor, feeling safe with him :)

Can't wait for the final chapter!

Yes, Jack is playing a bit of a waiting game here and you're right in your assessment of her role at Torchwood. I can see her being their eyes and ears out in the community to some extent, but not really in the thick of it somehow (I'm sure there'd be fireworks with Ianto for a start).

The final chapter should be pretty fluffy stuff, with a surprise or two.
