I enjoyed this insight into your writing as you worked your way towards an OT3 - and, along with Emotional Baggage, the Cardiff series remains my favourite of your work.
My personal canon on the Doctor rescuing Jack from his ship is a little bit different. I'd go along with the notion that Rose, rather than talking him into doing it, reminded him of something he'd been conveniently forgetting: that, for all of his delight at a day where everybody lived, Jack would die because he saved everyone. I also believe that the Doctor had to go back in time to save Jack - the bomb was on a three-minute countdown when Jack intercepted it, and it would have taken the Doctor and Rose much longer than that to wind up their business at the bomb-site and get back to the TARDIS.
Anyway, I digress. As always, I love your emotional honesty and your willingness to acknowledge the characters' flaws - all of the characters. Too often, I see one or more of these characters written as if they're saints. :(
Thanks for the commentary, which has inspired me to go back and reread (once I grade the HUGE pile of papers I have waiting for me). I like the "messiness" of the relationship here, their attempts to establish a connection that will last even though the others involved are damaged and difficult (aren't we all?).
