SPN 4.22 : Lucifer Rising

May 15, 2009 12:11

So I have a question about that last scene...

Right at the end there, first time I watched it, I was just thrilled that the boys were back together and clutching at each other desperately as Lucifer starts to rise. It was the best ending to hope for because any where Sam and Dean were still apart would have been too painful - considering the horribly long hiatus we have to sit through now.

BUT...

When Dean said Sammy, lets go, why did Sam stop him? He doesn't move and just says Dean. Then Dean gives him a look as if to say, WTH? Is Sam just overcome by the thought and prospect of Lucifer being set free? By his hand? Or can Sam not leave? Is he drawn to what is happening in front of them? Is he still tainted by / beholden to the demon blood in his veins?

I want to believe that it's the former, and that next season will start with the bro's together again - albeit possibly shakily - and getting ready to fight the impending apocalypse. Or is Kripke going to blindside us come episode 1, and all is not as rosy smelling and SamnDean as we think?!!

Or am I over thinking? They were clutching at each other quite wonderfully. Sam even got two hands on Dean's jacket...

Overall though, I really liked the episode. For one that was fairly lacking in any real action, it didn't feel like it at all and I'm very happy with this ending for the season. And I'm thrilled that Castiel finally saw the light as it were, and came back to Dean's side. Nice to see Chuck again too and Zachariah is delightfully nasty in his angel way. Lots of juicy, unanswered questions for them to tackle next season as well, and unless she was the biggest waste of guest star time ever, I'm pretty sure Anna will be back to. Otherwise, pointless! Sorry Ruby, but you got your comeuppance. Spectacularly so too!

Goddam it's going to be a long winter. Or Summer depending on your hemisphere of preference.

Love me the boys!!!
