Well! I decided not to go to grad school...at least not now or for a while...maybe not ever...
That's my final and happy decision! The financial business of grad school is insane.
1. I'm not sure I want to/could teach
2. By the time I get out, we'll have my undergrad student loans, James's undergrad student loans, his graduate student loans, AND my graduate student loans to pay...furthering our wait to have our first baby
3. Residencies will offer me the kind of environment and community for which I was going to grad school (the main reason I wanted to go anyway), and a lot of times they'll give me money to work on my projects
4. I think that a lot of times, institutions and systems like grad school can limit creative processes; not always, but sometimes. You know, because there are certain criterion, and so a lot of times students can end up catering their work to the system.
There are pros and cons to grad school, but for me the cons outweigh the pros and the pros can be found elsewhere right now. So, no grad school!
Here's a big bit of news: James and I will begin trying to get pregnant at the end of this year (provided I have a job and have had that job for a certain number of months).
SO! Yes...next year, we will definitely be first time parents!
I'm already crazy excited about it!
