Whirlwind of a Day

Believe it or not, with all the running around I had to do today, I was actually considering what I’ll be attempting this coming November. Sure, we’re only in the middle of March and Spring has just barely begun, but thoughts of cool autumn nights pounding out a new story are forever hovering at the back of my mind.

This year, I am considering doing an installment of my Evolutions series.

Evolutions is about the history of a species I had created, the kiyrie, some time ago and are native to the fantasy world I write in which I call Haven. It chronicles each new evolution the species has made to help protect themselves against a goddess who doesn’t want them on her world. Each new change is triggered by Fate who oversees the running of the universe as a whole and makes sure things don’t go haywire.

The kiyrie are a feline race with an innate ability to change appearance. In the beginning, this change is from a bipedal, humanoid-like form, to a feral cat form. A werecat or sorts to make it simple. That is how they started in my mind. They didn’t evolve like other races and species, they were created by the living spirit of the earth, Gaia, when she ‘awoke’ to find so many living in and on her. While all of those depended on her, they didn’t come from her, so she created the first of the kiyrie.

When the goddess, Bast, found them, she was angered and asked that they be removed. Gaia refused and hid them away. After Bast found out what was done, she cursed them, but the earth spirit figured a way around the curse to let her children grow and learn. In order to be rid of the forbidden new species, the Bast did everything she could to find and bring them down, even giving certain individuals the ability to track and hunt the elusive creatures as they evolved

I’ve written two of the stories, one is slowly being made into a graphic novel since the story self felt like it could be given a more visual feel. This one explains how the kiyrie gained their wings.

It can be seen here:

That is all that I have posted for now on the first story. I’ll eventually return to drawing and inking it. I have a friend who is willing to do the coloring for me since she is far better than I am when it comes making pictures pop with digital art. Hopefully, this gives an idea about the species I’ve made, and what has been introduced in the excerpt I posted on Tuesday.

The second story of their evolution I’ve written is how they gained the ability to hide in plain sight much like unicorns are supposed to do. If you guess unicorn was added to their blood lines, you are probably correct, and the unicorn will also help stabilize the different species which will enter their gene pool.

If anyone suspects I have been using known gods such as Bast, Ra, and other mythical concepts, I did. Haven is our world, but placed far into the future after the gods have tired of the destruction the human race has done to the earth. Only those who have proven themselves to help clean the land and conserve energy were allowed to make it through the Great Change and emerge as the first furries. Our civilization is almost completely erased off the face of the earth. Only few places are left as reminders and the science we had gained is lost; leaving magic instead.

That is a different story and one which has been chronicled in a journal type story of a different character. It is a story I really should be editing to fill out the story more and make it feel more like a story with the journal entries guiding the progress. It’s kind of flat right now.

That’s a goal for a different month, however.
