Apparently, the head honchos who run LJ could care less about us. There's no way anyone can be this fail at maintaining a business, can they? Anyone with even a smidgen of business experience knows two things keep you going:
Word of Mouth
Loyal Customers
Word of mouth is the most powerful thing for a business, or for anyone trying to sell a product. Even us authors know word of mouth is the biggest contributor to sales. Loyal customers fuel Word of Mouth, in addition to keeping your business steady because they come back for more. They're always there, like a good friend, and the more you have, the better off you are.
So why then, would you write an article that all but flat out says "We don't care about our long time, loyal customers"? Why would you do this? I mean, even if you're of the mindset that all of the American accounts could ditch their paid accounts and it not affect you, not all of your loyal customers are American. Tossing us aside only shows other countries that you'll easily do the same to them. Now you look unrealiable and shady.
With Dreamwidth working hard for their customers, I feel hard pressed to remain. I only have done so because many folks are still with LJ, and I've had my accounts for a very long time. My
catriana_chan account has been around since what, 2002?
I've already imported my fanfiction account over to DW (listed as
catriana_fiction) and
this account is over there too. I guess it's time to start using DW, because I can't support a site where I'm not even valued. I'll still log in to check my communities, but beyond that, yeah. Canceling my paid accounts too.
