So some guy calls work during the day asking for the webmaster (me), a manager answers and tells him "she's only here during the evenings", and takes his number. He tells me to call this guy during the day.
I just did and he's selling "Hacker-Proof Your Website" shit, even though we do almost zero actual business over the website, it's basically in case they customer tossed out their brochure with the season schedule, and already have an ssl. We sell shit on the phone. I try to explain to him as such, and he's like 'well, if you don't mind me asking, how many sales do you get per month over the phone?' And I'm like depends on what time of year, but we are a telemarketing firm, duh, and I'll pass this on (yeah right), but I don't think so.
It occurs that I probably make more money than this guy (at least for time spent) and am waaaay better at selling shit on the phone (hell I'm not even THAT great at it) but I'm selling the performing arts, something that has worth. I guess people predict these days that telemarketing is going extinct, but surprisingly we're still fine. For now, heh. Tons of people say no, or never answer, but plenty still say yes. Even over the holidaze.
Gotta go put gas in my car, then git phwn3d!!!
BTW, my car needs a new rack and pinion system if it's ever going to steer smoothly again, which is $800. You've had a good run, Buick. Since you're 14 yrs old and have 215k on you, and all. Actually the mechanic said that it's likely to only act up (for now) in cold weather (which it started over thanksgiving when it first got really cold) and that warming the engine up even if it's a cold day would likely help (which I've noticed) so I could concievably still drive it around for a while while looking around for a way to get a new one. It still reacts fine, I just have to put some elbow grease in there to make tight left turns when it's really acting up. Sigh. When did life get so expensive?
