No Cake for You!

I am in the depths of despair.  My beloved kitchen is broken.  First, it was my KitchenAid mixer -- which almost caused me to call a divorce lawyer.  (It died under what I consider mysterious circumstances when I was out of the house.  My husband claims that he was properly using it at the time of its demise.  Hmm.)  But now it is my DOUBLE WALL OVEN.  Life honestly cannot go on.  All I was doing was roasting potatoes for a simple green bean potato salad.  (It's a fantastic Bon Appetit recipe by the way.)  My best guess is that the fan broke which then caused the heat from the oven to melt some circuits.  And now, neither oven works.

And, of course, as luck will have it, I have people coming over tonight.  So, I guess my choices are: (1) mostly raw potato green bean salad; (2) boiled potato green bean salad; (3) microwaved potato green bean salad; (4) fried potato green bean salad; or (5) grilled potato green bean salad.  No. 5 could work, but for the fact that the potatoes are already cut into chunks.  I can see the poor little potatoes falling through the bars of the grill.  No -- they've been through too much trauma already.   I guess I'm going with "fried potato green bean salad," but I'll try to use as little oil as possible.  Who knows?  Maybe it'll turn out to be a hit, but my guess is that it won't be winning the Southern Living Cook-Off recipe this Fall.

So, if you're coming over to my house tonight, just be thankful that it's BBQ weather and not a certain Thursday in November.  And, sorry in advance about the salad -- and that there will be no cake or brownies.  Did I mention that I'm turning this into a pot luck?  ;)

I can't believe that a 2 year-old oven broke.  How can that be?  If I wasn't so busy feeling sorry for myself, I'd be pissed.  Oh -- and it only has a 1 year warranty.  Fantastic.
