It's odd feeling proud to be American. Over the past few years I've visited several countries overseas and would feel an urge to say I'm Canadian rather than admit I lived in the states. The disappointment from foreigners was a palpable force.
I was in Prague when a Switzerland election was occuring. I knew this because there was a couple from Switzerland that were activity keeping track of the progress. On vacation in a different country they were watching the election (they had voted via the absentee process) with interest. This past election was the first I can recall that people were involved, interested and hopeful.
Personally I'm just looking to not feel so abashed at being American... I don't think a miracle will happen today, but I do believe it's a start.
