"Scud". A nice, innocuous little verb, with quite pretty connotations.
No. It's transforming into a vile epithet as far as I'm concerned, because those scudding clouds are ruining my photography!
Several mornings this week, before going to work, I've noticed that the sky is clear and the moon is glowing brightly as if to say, "Look at me! I'm ready for my close-up Mr deMille!"
But by the time I race upstairs, grab the camera, rush - carefully - downstairs again and set up the tripod outside the back door, the scuddy, scudding clouds have scudded across the moon and I can snap nothing.
I suspect that the weekend, when I have time to wait for the next break in the clouds, will have solid cloud-cover the whole time.
Bah.
