Yesterday the local radio ran a little competition on the price
of a full English breakfast in the States.
They would ring up some all night diner in Texas and ask how
much the nearest equivalent to a Full Monty would be. They
figured, two eggs, sunny side up, two rashers of bacon, two
sausages, and two pancakes. How much would this cost in dollars?
So people started ringing in, placing their guesses. Generally,
they ranged from $2 to $6.49. I made my guess at $5.99, since
it's not really a standard breakfast and I bet adding in the
extras would push it up a bit.
And then they called bloody IHOP. All these great local diners
I'm sure they could have found with their surly but twangy staff
and they end up calling IHOP.
Serves them right. The IHOP hostess hung up on the twice before
they convinced her it wasn't a prank call.
I'm hungry now just thinking about breakfast in the States. It's
a bit of a ritual whenever we go back. The first breakfast of
the trip, as we're both pretty jet lagged and fed up with
airline food, is a gigantic breakfast that lasts well past lunch
and is what makes you realise that you can get a lot of things
you think you really want but don't need but are glad to have.
