I've officially entered the 21st century. I've finally gotten a cell phone.
Yes, after all these years complaining about how much people with their cell phones annoy me, I've gone over to the dark side. Of course, I have sworn I will use my new phone for good and not evil. This includes...
- Not walking down the sidewalk aimlessly oblivious to everything around me while yapping incessantly on my phone.
- The previous one goes double for when I'm at the grocery store.
- I am not going to stop my friends in mid-conversation when I'm out with them and my cell phone rings. In fact, unless there's an important reason to leave in on and answer it, I'll just turn the bloody thing off!
- It goes without saying that I'll turn it off while at a movie, lecture or concert. Yes, I realize it will take major effort on my part to take it out of my pocket and press the 'off' button but somehow I'll persevere.
- I also promise not to act like a junkie waiting for their next fix when I get the chance to check my messages after having turned it off.
Now I realize that I've only had my phone for a few weeks and I also realize absolute power corrupts absolutely so there's a chance that I may turn into the very thing I despise. But I seriously doubt it.
I'm just enjoying being part of the modern era. Well sort of. I don't have an i-Phone. Guess I'm back in the Dark Ages again, huh?
