This is why I bought a new car! So I wouldn't have any problems!

It was so nice to get in my car last night after work and actually have it work. I went out to my car Tuesday night and was unable to get it started. I could not get the key in the ignition (that's not the only thing I'm having trouble getting in the hole - HA!). Anyway, the key would only go in half-way. I felt so stupid, like maybe I wasn't inserting it properly (you can come up with your own sex jokes here).

So, I called my mom, who had my spare key, and had her come help me/keep me company. I thought maybe there was something wrong with MY key which is why I wanted to check out the key she had - Ford keys have a passive theft/security system which may have affected the use of my key. But, no such luck. I'm glad to have ruled it out though, and that way I had someone with me while I sat quietly in the dark waiting for the tow truck to arrive.

Thankfully, my warranty does not run out until next month, so I was able to get a tow truck to come pick me up and take me to the nearest dealership for service. He arrived an hour later, around 8pm, and seriously, that tow truck driver has to be the nicest one I've ever met, and has to be the nicest of all those drivers I haven't met. He was wonderful. Put me at ease. He was very gentle with my car and friendly to my mom and me.

As he was unable to get the car to work either, he towed it to John Elway Ford on East Colfax (which really wasn't all that close but oh well). They kept it overnight and I got it back Wednesday afternoon. It turns out it was the "tumblers". They had to completely replace that area where you insert your key (the ignition something-or-other?) and reprogram it. Apparently this is a common problem for 2000 Ford Focus-es (I can't say that word, should it be "foci" or something?)

Anyway, as it was under warranty, it cost me NOTHING! I just managed to lose my car for 24 hours plus I had to take time off of work to go pick it up. At least it was now and not next month when I no longer have roadside assistance and warranty coverage. Which reminds me, I need to look into AAA or something.
