Had a lovely g-chat with Jen (in Chile) a few minutes ago. We've both been doing some serious considering about careers lately. She's really interested in going back to school for counseling. Since she and her hubby are moving back to the states later this summer, she's hoping to move into a job at a University to offset some of the cost of her next degree. When I told her about my Librarian angle she was totally stoked! I believe her exact words were "That is the best career idea you've ever had." I was shocked to hear that, but it really gave me a good feeling inside. I've always felt that the feedback from friends can be far more insightful than our own endless ruminations turn out to be. I think this might be that kind of an utterance. I chose my college in a similar way and I was very happy with that decision. So further investigation into the librarian profession is definitely topping my priority list now. I've already heard about some good programs in the Texas area, but I really don't think I'm going to stay here for school. Grad school is my opportunity to make a move to another part of the country with a built in way to meet people and form connections, plus I've been wanting to head east and be closer to my family.
For my next random sharing of the day, I will recount Karla's imaginings of my cat on a leash. I don't actually have a cat, as yet, but there is this adorable kitten up for adoption at my vet's and every time I've been in there the last few weeks (3 times currently) I get a little more tempted to take him home with me. One of the receptionist was telling me about how her cats think they're dogs and the dogs think think the cats are dogs too. So even though she's got two of each, they all act like canines. Which gave me this crazy image of
taking my dog & CAT on a walk together. Apparently this can actually be done (walk a cat on a leash I mean) but it sure is hard to imagine. We would be the talk of the neighborhood I bet. I'm just about laughing myself silly just thinking about it, but the more I do the more I want to try it and see if I can get my cat to think he is a dog. Karla claims she has a friend that actually does this with her cat and our ramblings on the possibilites has really cemented the idea in my head.
