Why I'm Still Going to the Laundromat

Before anyone corrects me, I DO know that "laundromat" is like "xerox." It's not a generic. I should say "coin laundry." But I don't.

Anyway. A while back, my dryer died. Since we didn't have a lot of extra money, I started hanging laundry in the back yard (which was kinda fun when I got to talk to the back-yard-neighbor's dog). Then, all of a sudden one day, the washing machine's tub totally bit the big one--full of water, soap, and laundry. Nasty. So, we started shopping for a washer and dryer. I decided to get a small apartment washer and dryer and put them in the kitchen so I wouldn't have to go up and down stairs carrying laundry. My knees don't like stairs much. Until we got the new washer and dryer, I had to go to the laundromat. Our laundromat is clean, and has free wifi, but it's rather ghetto, and parents seem to think they can let their kids run wild at it. Going to the laundromat has become a big chore, which I hate.

I found the machines I wanted, and they were only available online. Hmmm. I checked out a bunch of different places, and they were cheapest on Target's website. So I ordered the washer and dryer and, when I saw the projected delivery date, thought, "Hey, only one more trip to the laundromat!"

Then, when I heard nothing back, and it was getting close to the projected delivery date, I checked the Target website, and noticed the projected delivery date had been moved back a week. Then I got an E-mail saying they would have to change the projected delivery date again, and could I okay that. I did, but I was not happy with it.

When the dates had been changed four times, I E-mailed them saying, "Hey, what's the deal? Do you have this washer and dryer or not?"

I got a nice E-mail back saying, "Sorry, we can't control this," (or some such thing). Of course, they never said WHY they were having to continually change the projected delivery date, or even if they actually HAD the washer and dryer.

This went on for A MONTH AND A HALF. Finally, we had to use the money I had set aside for the washer and dryer to fix our car. So I canceled the order, and sent a very calm, cool E-mail to Target saying that I had waited for nearly two months, and they hadn't sent the things I ordered, and that now I could no longer afford them. I suggested (rather strongly, but without any kind of profanity) that they not advertise items if they weren't available.

Anyway, I still don't have a washer and dryer. Today was the WORST day at the laundromat--no washers available, no dryers available, hundreds of (well five or six) screaming children, nowhere to sit. So, since I was feeling very upset at Target about having to endure this, I decided to post this.

Oh, and I never got ANY kind of reply to my well-reasoned, intelligent E-mail about why I had to cancel my order.

Does Target not care that they've lost my patronage? Will they care that I'm badmouthing them on LiveJournal?
