Hampton Roads, Virginia--I have a job!
I was supposed to go to OfficeTeam (another temp agency) on Tuesday at 1:30pm. But instead I got a call from Jesse, my AppleOne Account Exec, asking if he should put in my resume for this 3-month temp position with
Cox Communications in the Public Affairs department. Of course I said yes.. umm.. I've been without a job for how long now? He said they usually do interviews too, just to make sure.
Well, he called me back within 2 hours.. and said they didn't even want to fool around with interviewing me and wanted me to start the next day! And it's the max hourly wage they were willing to go. I was stoked and went ahead and cancelled my OfficeTeam interview. So I've been a working girl for 3 days now!
I've mostly been cleaning out the office of a woman who got sacked (or "left very quickly" as it was said to me). She left a huge mess.. 5 years worth of disorganized files, and she was pretty senior (Director of Community Relations at a company that gives away over $4 million a year I think). 17 boxes later, I'm still not done with it all. But I've been getting other assignments on the side, which is awesome because it's like the internship I never had in college. (And this one pays quite decently.) I got to write a press release all by myself today, and my supervisor hardly changed anything about it. (Big yay! since I've technically never written a press release before . .. they don't focus on that when you're an Advertising major, since it's a PR thing.). I don't think my supervisor knows that I'd never done it before.. hehe.
And tonight I played Mario Party and drank mojitos with a bunch of sailors (mostly girls, but one former Bama football player). Yay for making new friends while the boyfriend sleeps with the fishies. I guess my new bestest friend is
Digital Max, which is Cox's mascot. When sorting through the files, I found the invoice for his character head--$3500! Yowza!
