Update on Virginia:
It really is for lovers. Brian came back unexpectedly for a day when his boat broke or something. We had an awesome time, and he brought me flowers. Then it was back out to sea for the USS Albany.
During that day together, I accidentally left my previously-glued-to-my-side cell phone at the apartment. And lo and behold, a potential employer called offering an interview. Two days later, another company called. I did both of those interviews yesterday. I liked the first company, but they have a 3-interview hiring process, so I guess I'll wait and see. And that first interview included all this testing.. felt like the SAT's or something, with an Excel twist (yes, part of the test was to see how proficient I was with Excel.. I'm about 80%). The second company offered me a 2-month temp position that pays $10/hr. Not terrible, I definitely liked the company, and there would probably be a position open at the end of that. But while I was in the first interview, a voicemail was left from another company for yet another interview. So that will be Monday. Then a career fair on Tuesday.
This is like playing some screwy game. The temp position is trying to get someone immediately, so they gave me a 2-week window to accept or reject. I told them I was looking for full-time, so they know what's up. I hope I can pop out 2 more interviews with company 1 within two weeks. Or maybe company 3 will be the right place. They are all pretty awesome, and none of them are sales jobs.
Roommate is back. We watch Jeopardy!, he reads his Superman comic books, I watch Gilmore Girls. He's interesting for the most part.
And if anyone is wondering, here's the list of companies I might work at as of now:
company 1:
Nexus Direct (direct marketing)
company 2:
Lillian Vernon (catalog, consumer products)
company 3:
BCF (advertising, branding)*
*If you go to their website, you'll see that they're really into a baby-boomer target market. But I'm being interviewed for Assistant Media Planner (media planning being my strength in college), so I think it's cool.
And I get to watch my football team play on TV today, even though we don't have cable. I'm quite excited.
