http://www.nytimes.com/2008/03/24/arts/television/24bell.html?_r=1&oref=slogin First of all, I have no respect for this show or it's "actors" in the first place, but now good old Heidi Montag wants to be a political aficionado and a feminist? Please. Really.
Not only does this woman publicly announce her love of John McCain for a variety of vague and nonsensical reasons (she's also not a registered voter... how surprising), but now the New York Times is touting her as a feminist role model.
Hint to all the poor impressionable idiots in the world today. Feminists generally do not:
1. Need boob jobs to make them feel like real women.
2. Need additional plastic surgery in their early twenties without a valid, medical reason.
3. Need floofy white wedding dresses in order to be an independent woman.
4. Carry on pathetic rivalries with "friends" on so-called "reality TV"
5. Design clothing lines that simply endorse the "women = slut" motif
6. Take on jobs in industries that are, in general, about as negative towards female identity/sexuality as possible (Sorry, Vogue and the fashion industry but it's true) (I still love your crazy photo shoots minus the academic and social aspects of them)(NB: If a feminist does take on a job in such an industry, they will probably not embody the worst of its traits, so we hope)
In any case, sure my definition of feminism may not be the same as the one they are using, but I unilaterally declare that they are morons. If you're that stupid, you don't get benefit of the doubt from me. I think I'll go back to immersing myself in the world of academia because this just proved that "real life" is suck in a whole, different and aggravating way. (Twitches at the series of "I love the Hills!" facebook statuses on her wall).
UGG.
