Favorite movie of all time. Hard to describe if you haven't seen it. Directed by Alex Cox, a hilarious, paranoid, wild n wooly ride along the hellscape of modern-day Los Angeles, with its obsession with cars, cults, conspiracies...and an amazing soundtrack. Government agents, mad scientists, aliens, low riders, religious fanatics, street kids, and auto repossessors. Plate o' shrimp.
When I suffered from insomnia for many years, I played this movie in my head instead of counting sheep. Charming, funny, hopeful, with a deftly turned plot and storyline, perfectly fitting, and delightful performances by all involved. Everyman gets a chance to run the country. Gives hope for the sincerity of the average good person to win out over the bad guys. A tale for our times.
