Kaylee looked mournfully at Inara. "I dunno, it's just that everything is so sad, with Tracy 'n' all, and the snow makes it feel like Christmas like we celebrate back home, an' I coulda swore I heard Jayne say something like he was gonna trim a tree, so I guess I started wishin'..." She put her head down on the table as Inara looked, puzzed, at Jayne.
Jayne snorted. "I never said nothin' 'bout no tree, that musta been...hah!" He let out a bark of laughter. "I was talking to Shepherd about gettin' some trim, not trimmin' a tree! Gorram hell, girl, what're you thinkin'?" He shook his head as Kaylee looked up to glare at him mutinously and Inara shooed him away and stood to fetch Kaylee some tea.
Jayne ambled out to the passageway, still shaking his head, when he seemed to stop to think. Feeling the engines begin to rumble, he headed up to the cockpit to tell Wash to hold up a sec so he could get outside to get some pine boughs. Smell would be right nice, and maybe cheer them all up a bit. It had been kinda sad round here, and maybe a little winter spirit would do the trick.
