Buffy Post Finale Fic and Fanmix
For the comm prompts oldie but goodie, road trip, and pick a song and the theme of Female Characters.
Title: Riding Away from Saving the World
Fandom: Buffy the Vampire Slayer

Summary: Post Series Finale, the Buffy crew heads out on the open road in an old school bus.
Notes: I had an idea for a road-trip fanmix that included the Tom Waits' song "The Long Way Home," and only later saw that it was the name of the post-finale Buffy comic book. Warning that most of these songs are unlikely to be found on a desert cafe jukebox, and certainly not in the year of the Buffy finale.
Faith pushed open the door to the dimly-lit diner, and, nodding at the three behind her, headed to the back. Buffy, Dawn, and Willow piled into a booth--Dawn grabbing eagerly at the menu, the other two sinking into the cracked, shiny-red-plastic bench seats with a sigh. "I'm starving," Dawn declared. "I don't see how the rest of 'em can sleep when there is fried food--" she sniffed the air delicately, "within reach! And oh, look!" She pointed to the end of the table. "Our own personal juke box! Cool!" She began scrabbling in her backpack as her companions exchanged exhausted yet amused glances. "Here! Eight quarters! We can choose two songs each!" She began flipping the metal tabs excitedly as Faith rejoined them. Her enthusiasm was infectious, and the others found themselves fingering their quarters and looking over her shoulder while simultaneously scanning the menu, as the waitress, accustomed to no end of odd things late at night out here in the desert, looked on with a friendly smile.
