Continuing my last entery where Clow was plotting his final spell...
What Clow Intended to Happen:
Fujitaka, the British part of Clow's bloodline, was denied magic, history, or memory--three things that had plagued Clow's existence since his birth--and was given the perfect parental disposition. Basically, he is the embodiment of everything Clow could never be. He is loving, caring, gentle, protective, a team player, a role model, a normal human.
Fujitaka was meant to take the Book of Clow, keep it with his person at all times, keep it safe and keep the cards happy until their new mistress was ready for them. He was to marry Nadeshiko and raise Sakura to be everything she ought to be so that she could tend to the cards and the guardians so that Clow would feel no guilt on abandoning them.
Eriol, the left over side-effects one could almost claim, was Clow's intended chance to survive death. He was aware that to cut his soul like this would be the end of his current body, but if he cast the magic in just such a way, all his power and memories would be locked in one body, and in that body he would continue to live as he always had before.
Eriol was to go to Yuuko, free of guardian and of card, pay her to restore his body to the adult form. This would not be in violation of the promise, because it would not be the same Clow that had promised to never see her again. Instead, this new one would be fully able to make her his and he'd get his way in the long run. Or at least that was the plan.
What Clow Didn't Count on Happening:
Though his magic worked, and the spell was cast to his specifications, the cut between the two parts of his soul was too clean, leaving room for other fragments of souls to move in and fill the missing gaps. This lead each to only be half of him and half something different. And quite frankly, the 'different' that made up Eriol, was not the least bit impressed with Clow's plans for him.
Eriol, in all his wonder, had gained something from this splitting that Clow had lost contact with. Clow had been shoved aside for so many years, shunned and neglected due to his mixed linage, feared and worshipped for his power, treated by everyone as an object or a tool for so long that he had forgotten that there was more to people then that. He had lost touch with his own heart, only longing in the distant shadows of a future to one day find a place to fit in and be loved.
In this, Eriol proved superior to his creator, and saw a new angle on everything that Clow had never seen himself. Visions, no matter how clear and precise, are much like watching a movie in which much of the events and motives are left up to the viewer to interpret and make their own personal sense of. And so with the new found understanding of emotions, Eriol was able to get new insight on the things Clow had seen.
He also despised Clow for assuming that Eriol would just quietly go along with whatever Clow wanted. He has his own mind and emotions on things, he's not just another of Clow's puppet-like creations. As much out of spite as understanding, Eriol refused to go to Yuuko's shop and instead travelled to England where he intended to wait out the next fourty years until Fujitaka's perfect children had grown to an age and a state where one of them could cast the spell to split his magic so that he, too, could grow up and hopefully find as much happiness as Fujitaka.
However, four decades-even to one who's mind recalled hundreds of years of existence-is a very long time for someone to exist all alone, without outside contact. And haunted by the teasing and tantalizing visions of everything his other half would be able to gain, that he would be denied simply because of Clow's egotism. It wasn't long before he snapped and made new guardians to be his much-needed companions.
He longed for a child to call his own, and the half formed shadows of what Fujitaka would receive for a precious daughter who would bring light and love in to the lives of all who came near her soon became the basis for his new creation. However, it was still several decades off until she would be born, and the accumulative uncertainties were enough that every detail about her was not known to the absolute. This being said, the gaps that were left ended up being filled by Eriol's own subconscious, much of which still pined for Yuuko.
For the other he took the approach of a companion and a confidant. An intellectual equal with whom he could converse when his books and notes were just not enough. A calm and steady force to counteract not only its other self but also its predecessor. And so with this in mind, there came about the birth of Spinel Sun and Ruby Moon.
As the years slipped slowly by, Eriol found some semblance of happiness in his self-secludedness with his two creations to keep him company. It was nearly fifteen years prior to the start of the series when the first shadows of Kaho ghosted across his mind's eye. In the beginning he mistook them to be the daughter of his other half, but all too soon her importance in the matter of the trial began to play out and he realized this was a different woman. It wasn't until he saw himself with her that her true importance began to make itself known to him and he became determined that he wanted the future that she would end up providing for him.
This is when he began scheming like he had not done since gaining this new existence. He did not know how, or even clearly when, but he knew this woman would open the doorway to his own happily ever after if he only played his cards right. But to do so would be risky, the window of opportunity was only guaranteed for a short space in time and few humans had his sort of patience to wait decades to get what they desired. This meant action would have to happen sooner, lest she grow weary of waiting and leave.
There was only one way he knew of to ensure such action be taken, and it was a risky path which could bring danger to all involved, but Eriol had inherited much from Clow, and Clow was nothing if not egotistical. He believed with his vast magic, he could believably pull off a vague threat of danger that would trigger fate to go faster than it ought to and awaken Sakura to her true power at a much younger age.
He already knew that she was destined to become Mistress of Yue and Cerberus during her childhood, and that if left to her own devices, her magic would slowly and steadily increase over the following years until her mid-teens when she would finally start to change the cards over to her own magic, and then eventually find reasons to create new cards beyond the ones that she inherited from Clow. But if he crafted situations where her loved ones and herself were in a perceived state of danger, she would tap into her latent magic and awaken her power much sooner. Especially if she had to wrestle control of the cards away from him to do it.
So long as he had Clow's magic, he was as good as Clow himself and the cards and guardians were his to command as much as hers, and in such a state it was purely up to the power of the caster in question who would win out. So if he set consecutively higher levels of power that she needed to reach before she could win out over his magic and force her will on the cards then her magic should increase in power prematurely and she would be able to release him from his cursed childhood so that he could obtain his wish.
Of course, precautions would have to be made, she'd need to be trained more strictly, or else serious trouble would arise when she began making her own cards. He decided England would be the best as Hogwarts, he recalled, had a pre-established sorcery guild working within it, and if he was ageing again then he would be sent there as well and he could teach her eastern style along side the western style. But he'd want his guardians, and for everything to go as seamlessly as possible so not to attract undue attention. So that being said, he figured out when it ought to be, organized for the wands to be made, and set it up so that Nakuru could be conceivably a student at the school at the same time.
Seven years prior to the start of my story, Eriol uses his power as the Master to change Ruby Moon's sealed form so that she looks to be a child so that she can be slipped into Hogwarts without any real problem. It is a few years later that Nakuru is out on the streets of London and runs into Kaho (it's her signature way of being introduced, after all...) Nakuru, who recognizes Kaho's magic as something scrumptious, insists that Kaho come back and join her for dinner at her house as “a way of apologizing” for running into her.
Kaho has never seen a guardian before this point; however, she does recognize a strong magical being and knows such meetings happen for a reason. And so, with that in mind, she followed innocently right into the Reed Mannor. It is there that she met Eriol for the first time, and though fearful of the imence power she felt radiating from this small boy, he conducted himself with a presence that put her at ease.
Small facts, such as his knowing her name prior to introductions, alerted her to the fact that he was a very powerful seer, and so when he offered her room, board, and training in exchange for a job he needed her to do in the future, she accepted that this was the “reason” she had foreseen when she on needing to come to England at this time. Over the following months, she came to understand Eriol's situation-technically an adult, but trapped eternally within the body of a small child-and that he was awaiting a chance to restart his time so that he could become the man he ought to be.
It was his calm, quiet power that caused her heart to flutter in the beginning. His ancient manners which left him treating her as a lady of high court rather than a simple miko who left to chase a foolhardy dream. In the beginning she tried to fight it, for though he was only physically a child, it was still wrong to be attracted to a child. And then the other aspects of him: mentally speaking he was equivalent to a great grandfather or older and she was so far below him that any move made on her part would be laughable at best. And yet his sad smiles and gentlemanly mannerisms left her all the more hooked as she continued to spend time around him.
Now the manga itself goes through relatively unchanged, and for the story involved in thus you can simply read the transcripts on Manga Fox. However, the change that happens takes place at the end of the story as Sakura makes Syaoran's pink teddy, she thinks over how she's to loose him just as she came to realize what she felt for him, and her tears-so pure of her true feelings-become the Love card, her personal Deck Master. She gives Syaoran the bear just as the bus is pulling out, but it drives too fast for her to keep up with and she can't confess her feelings to him. It's generally accepted by both, though, that the feelings had been said and so a proper confession is not made.
Quickly following this event, Touya and Yukito are enjoying their quiet lunch without Nakuru (the first in a few months) when some of the girls from class, who had assumed that Touya had been dating Nakuru by how she was always all over him, saw this as an opportunity to try and confess for themselves. Touya turns them down, saying that he's already seeing someone, and they leave thinking he means him and Nakuru are having a long-distance relationship now. Yukito, who knows that Touya wouldn't lie about such things, is shocked and disturbed for more than just the fact that Touya is apparently already in love with someone.
Yukito attempts to pretend that nothing is wrong, but Touya can see right through it. On the bike ride home, Touya takes a detour into the park and when Yukito follows curiously he asks Yukito what the matter is, why is he so upset? Yukito insists that he hasn't the faintest clue what Touya is talking about, and Touya's slightly upset that Yukito would keep him out of things like that. However, Touya gets his answer some minutes later as they continue to ride through the park when Yukito teasingly asks (whilst avoiding looking at Touya at all) “So, who is she?” Not at first understanding what it is Yukito's talking about, Touya stops and asks what he means. Yukito reminds him of the conversation at lunch with the girls and Touya realizes that Yukito misunderstood.
When Touya presses the subject as being why Yukito's acting weird, even past Yuki's initial denials, the silver haired boy finally snaps and admits that he's upset with Touya for it. He insists that he doesn't care that Touya has found a girl to love, that he's happy for his friend, but that he's extremely hurt that Touya didn't even deem it necessary to tell him-his supposed best friend-about falling in love with someone and that he had to find out through Touya's turning down someone else.
Seeing Yukito on the verge of tears is hard for anyone, but especially for Touya as his frustrations finally mounted and he insists that he's TRIED telling Yuki for MONTHS now, but to no success as Yukito would JUST NOT GET IT. With his stunned-to-silence audience, Touya's rant continues; pointing out all the times they went out to eat after work, and all the times the went to catch the latest movie in the theatres, and all the walks in the park, and all the times he invited him to attend various festivals together. And how every time Touya would try and take things to the next level, it would become blatantly clear that Yukito wasn't on the same page and so he backed off. He even tried confessing once, telling Yukito that he felt for Yuki what Yuki felt for him, but that even that Yukito didn't understand. And then Touya asks if perhaps it wasn't Yukito misunderstanding, but rather him? Did he read too deep and see things that were never there to begin with?
Yukito hesitantly, so not to make a fool of himself completely, double checks that Touya does mean what he thinks he does: that the one Touya has fallen for is Yukito himself. When Touya shyly confirms this, Yukito smiles adoringly and tells Touya that he has fallen for him, too. They share their first kiss at this point and become the new happy couple of the neighbourhood.
Summer break starts and Sakura's class is doing a play for one of the summer festivals. Sakura is the princess opposite Yamazaki as the prince. But just as the last of the organizations are being completed, Sakura's cards start being stolen. Calling Eriol to find out what's going on now, he tells her that he hadn't anticipated her creating her twentieth card and thus stripping the Void of it's duty at this point. He explains to her the purpose of the Deck Master and tells her that to seal the Void she must give it her truest emotions. She doesn't want to, because she thinks he means she will loose them completely, and thus would end up in the reality that would have happened if she had failed the trial by Yue.
However, everything changes the night of the play. Everyone turned up for it, and it's a great success until Void attacks. One of the first shots it sends land on Touya and Yukito, but Touya shoves his boyfriend out of the bubble telling him to protect Sakura. For Yukito, this instance triggers his heart synchronizing for the first time with Yue's and the connection is formed going both ways between them. (aka, Yukito becomes able to hear Yue's voice and see through Yue's eyes when he's not in control) Not far away, Fujitaka witnesses the removal of his beloved son from existence and the pain and desperation of a parent unlocks his magic and he turns his attacks onto Void for daring to steal his son. He battles against Void along side Sakura, but with only half the magic Clow Reed had and none of the experience, he eventually falls to Void's power as well. The battle continues until Yue and Cerberus are taken from Sakura as well. It is loosing them that sends her over the edge and she just doesn't care anymore. She accepts that she may end up never feeling love again if only it means their return.
After the battle's over, she's happy that her emotions are still intact but asks why loosing Yue and Kero sent her so over the edge. Yue explains to her that in order to ensure a guardian's loyalty and servitude to a master, their souls are interwoven with that of the master. This enables the guardian to tell the master's moods as well as to sense when the master is in danger. When they were removed from existence, she felt the connection between them unravelling at an unnatural speed and it resulted in her instability and desperation. After the talk, when Yukito returns, Sakura requests the right to call Yukito by his nickname “Yuki” due to their souls apparently being fused. Yuki tells her that he'd be happy for her to call him so familiarly and so from then on she does just that.
After this, it marks the beginning of my story: Harry Potter and the Deck Master which can be read as posted on fanfiction.net.
