Stranger in the Temple

Living with Margaret, I tend to get rather swept up in Holy Week.  This is the third year I'm planning to go with her to the Easter Vigil at St.-Martin-in-the-Fields (it's gorgeous; there's a candlelit procession around the church, then a bonfire on the front steps as the sun comes up), and then have a massive Easter dinner for friends at the flat ( Read more... )

I've already told you how much I love that poem, and I think it actually WORKS for it to be incomplete. Because the thought is incomplete - it ends on a "perhaps" and an "uncertain," and so it works for the structure to be somewhat incomplete and ragged too.

Though I think leaving the "s" off of "London's" was taking it a bit far in the incompleteness department. :)

Thank you! It really means a lot to me that you think so, because your sestinas inspired me - they are amazing.

Wow.

Makes me think, of course, of Puddleglum in "The Silver Chair," avowing his loyalty to Aslan even if Aslan doesn't exist.

Thank you!

Hmmmmm. Well, a good chunk of it did come out of conversations with Margaret, and that's one of her favourite scenes, so I suppose it makes sense. :)

Of course, there's rather a sharp difference between, "It's a good story," and, "I want it to be true," especially, "I want it to be true so badly that I'd rather live as though it is true than live in a world where it isn't true."

Small quibble. We weren't buying lamb CHOPS for dinner. We were buying TWO ENORMOUS legs of lamb, in case all twelve people who "might" show up did decide to show up.

We got five people, and made it through one of those legs of lamb - an open invitation to dinner stands for anybody who wants lamb in the next few days. I'm a damn good cook - it IS worth crossing an ocean for. There's baklava, too.
