I'm really sad that
Dan Kennedy is leaving the Phoenix. (So are 20 other people as of 8:27 P.M. tonight.) I would also like to say that I am sincerely pissed off that
Kristen Lombardi left us and went off to NYC to write for the Village Voice. I mean, don't get me wrong, I love New York town more than anything. In fact, your faithful if erratic (is that possible?) livejournalist was born there. But I really dug Kristen's work, as I've
written before, and I really miss her.
In other news, Berklee School of Music once more welcomes the spring, as I wrote exactly
one year ago. You can tell they're welcoming the spring because they have broken out the bongos and woken
eighttrack4ever up from her nap.
Furthermore, I am utterly sick of stock photography on the covers of trade fiction, especially pictures of women from the neck down, saturated color landcapes and whimsical half-focused still lifes, and I think somebody should do something about this ghastly long-lived trend before I have to bash heads.
As for happier developments, I have been reunited with my beloved French gossip rag,
Voici. I am only a wannabe language maven, not a real one like some I could mention by the name of
mistersmearcase, but I adore Voici and here is just a brief sampling of why.
Ophélie Winter: "Elle n'a plus que la peau sur les os, mais ses seins, eux, sont toujours là. C'est à cela qu'on reconnait les vrais amis: ils ne vous lâchent pas dans l'adversité." (She's nothing but skin and bones, but her breasts are still around. That's how you can tell real friends: they don't abandon you in bad times.)
Kate Moss and Pete Doherty: "la frêle Anglaise semble bien décidée à suivre son ange trash jusqu'au bout. Quitte à se brûler les ailes en enfer . . ." (The English something seems determined to follow her trash angel to the end. Which might be when he singes his wings in Hell . . .)
Mariah Carey: "Trois jours plus tard, toujours dans le cadre de sa triomphale tournée promo, la star (dans sa tête) débarquai au Baglioni Hotel de Londres." (Three days later, the star-in her own head-debarked at the Baglioni Hotel in London.)
