Week 10
This week was quite stressful. Lots of assignments and things to do… and looking at riders and dealing with drama!!! Argghh! It’s all too much. Well drama is going well. I think our idea is quite unique and that people will appreciate what we are trying to create and draw attention to… but I won’t give too much away just yet!
We looked at Alf Dubbo today and looked at his fascination with the ordinary, like most of the other characters in riders share. His description of the maggots is spine tingling.
One thing we talked about today was the beatitudes and the reference to them in the novel. We agreed that the beatitudes were like a sign that the rider’s jobs were so far incomplete and their aims yet to be fulfilled. I remember learning the beatitudes at school… happy are those…
I find the beatitudes quite beautiful; they provide the reader with hope and a sense of knowing that there is a better place beyond where we will all be looked after. I think having that sense of hope is important, particularly in rider’s where the characters attempt to change the human path by making our journey more pure and aware.
Review
Today I thought I’d look at Jessica’s live journal. I really liked what she said in her post about faith being within the individual and the consequences of moral outrage. Jess seems to be very in tune with Blake’s way of thinking. It’s as though Jess sees every aspect of life and in this case of religion ‘touchable’, she’s not afraid to delve into the meanings of concepts and have a go at seeing someone else’s point of view. Basically, her reference to modern art looking at horrifying experiences in regards to religion such as crucifixion, well Jess claims that people have horrific experiences everyday. This is true. To see the beauty and respect even that crucifixion entails, well I’m with Jess; I can’t quite understand the whole concept myself. Oh and Jess, you say you were rambling, yet rambling thoughts are often what provokes though and further analysis of the unthinkable, untouchable…the infinite! Well done =)
