..because I have a case study to complete by today, and naturally avoiding it is easier than confronting it head on, is that okay?
Yakima weekends suck
My weekends are so lonely. My husband works all weekend from 3-10:30 on Fridays, 2-9:30 on Saturdays and Sundays. but this weekend has been special. He worked Friday from 2pm-1:30am, Saturday from 12:00pm-11:30pm, had a job interview at Zales (gotta keep his options open) today and will be at work until about 9:30 due to tournaments at the tennis club. Basically I spend my weekends trying to dose in an out of sleep, doing homework and running errands. It sucks to wait all week for the relief of a break from work only to realize that the weekends are when I see Allen the LEAST. It would be nice to be on the same schedule as him.
TMI: I had steak and eggs for breakfast this morning and keep burping steak and eggs as a result.
Back to normal stuff.
A bowl of pineapple
Last weekend, despite having a final and papers to write, I did have a great weekend. I met up with Kristine and her boyfriend Alex at Starbucks and we had coffee. I got a big bowl of pineapple that I chowed and some pink tulips as a congrats for finishing my final that morning. Isn't that sweet? Present Catherine is kind of jealous of Past Catherine for the pineapple bowl, lol.
We just sat at Starbucks and talked for a few hours, it was refreshing. Alex actually lives in Ellensburg and Kristine was going to move there too but couldn't find a job (what a surprise, right? *rolls eyes sarcastically* Even the temp girl at work who is related to half of Yakima was unemployed for 6 months). Alex is graduating in June, which is good for him/them, and then he's moving back to Seattle. Okay enough back story.
They're a good couple. They're really kind to each other. I like observing them and listening to the way they talk to each other. They tease lovingly and have kind words for each other, they just work out really. He's fun to talk to as well, so I like hanging out with them. They're both very non-threatening people and we know a lot of the same people, so that makes it nice. At the same time we're not only connected by those other people, it just happens that even though we all only went to middle school together, somehow our life paths intertwined. Pretty neat how that happens.
One thing that sticks out in my mind (beside that fact that Kristine is gorgeous and still has the clearest fucking skin I have ever seen. I should have taken a picture so I could illustrate my point) is that some guy sat down next to us was kind of...involved in the conversation we were having. It was kind of awkward. You know, like he thought it was interesting and wanted to jump in it. I could see him out of the corner of my eyes, temped to, and when he finally did he was kind of quiet. I felt bad because he looked pretty lonley. I thought at first he was waiting for a friend but nobody ever showed up. I hope he wasn't really lonely, because boy do I know how it feels to be lonely, heh.
It was a good time, I needed it. I then went home to my dreary life and did homework, lol. Stupid Yakima.
Stupid Yakima is stupid
It snowed Friday and today. It's supposed to get up to 50 tomorrow and shortly after that we're expecting sunshine and 60's. I was quite impressed during the winter how people don't let the snow shut down the city like they do in Seattle but had forgotten that even with tiny flakes and no sticking, they still drive 25 in a 35, lol. Gotta hand it to them though, the snow they got here during the winter would really have shut down Seattle for months at a time and they just kept going.
But really, the rest of Yakima is stupid.
I'm trying to think of things in Yakima that I will actually miss. I've been here for a year so I should be somewhat attached, right?
1) Essencia- an Artisan bakery "downtown" that has good everything. They have homemade soups, croissants, breads, and everything is just premium (service sucks, but you spend like 20 seconds with them).
2) The lack of traffic. Even the fact that everyone drives so slowly here doesn't make me miss Seattle's traffic.
3) Shannon- my aesthetician. Sure, I haven't been able to afford to see her in months but she's the best.
4) King's Row- probably the closest the Dick's we have found, without the greasy fries (which I love). But really, I wouldn't miss it because Dick's is still better.
5) My arch nemesis at Red Apple. Whenever Allen and I go in there within an hour of closing, there's this big tall doofy looking guy that shouts at us "CAN I HELP YOU FIND ANYTHING?!" everytime he sees us. Like we're going to find enough stuff to look at/buy to keep us there past closing. Pfft. It's the smallest and most expensive grocery store in the world (think Metropolitan Market, without the selection, and class), we only get a few things from there at a time. Basically, I love making fun of him to Allen.
6) My stupid snickerdoodle chai. There's a stand next to my work that has the BEST snickerdoodle chai. Okay, I need to stop talking about it, because they're closed today.
7) The fact that half of Yakima owns this jacket:
I lol everytime I see it.
8) The weather, May-October. It's quite nice. Too bad there's nowhere to go and nothing to look at.
9) Okay, so our rent is only $585 and our place is pretty big. Now, we still have half the income we had in Seattle and twice the bills, so don't get too excited. If we made as much here as we did there, we'd be RIIICHH!
10) I really like my OBGYN. I wish I could have her throughout my future pregnancies (but that would require staying here...).
11) Making fun of people who marvel that I "commute" all the way from Selah. Seriously, it's not even a full four miles.
But don't get too excited, Yakima, I'm actually not going to miss you at all.
That's all, folks.
