just this week i received an e-mail from some fellow who said he was interested in starting a "hunt club" at tulane. after trying a few responses and finding they all sounded really tiresome (hi, i've been riding horses for 22 yrs, can i offer a bit of help to your sad and sorry self...) i rather forfeited and just gave him a call. it's best to take a moment to reflect that this boy's name was harry joseph james molligan IV. my questions for young harry j.j. IV ranged from whether it would be private or competitive, funding and the like. when he began discussing the amount of land in mid to northern louisiana that would be available i was prompted to ask if it was not going to be a jumping club but rather a fox hunting club. oh, silly me. it was at this point, well into our discourse, that harry revealed he had no mind to include horses at all. he wants to shoot himself some deer. apparently mid to northern louisiana is rife with bambies, and i certainly wouldn't want to be the rider on the spotted horse that got mistaken for a future wall-mounting. given our the misunderstanding, it's astonishing how long the conversation actually managed to continue. i'd feel silly, but his name is harry joseph james molligan the iv for goodness sake...
