Last night there was a
mobile club in Deptford. This one was quite exciting. The location was largely a pedestrianised presinct, with the odd bin lorry or goods van creeping past. I arrived just after the dancing started. Plenty of bemused faces, and a couple of passers by joined in. Quite a few people were filming the event on their mobile phones (I've seen people taking snaps before, but its the first time I've noticed video being taken). There was a TV camera around, and I signed waiver forms for a production company filming for the
Discovery channel. Apparently a documentary about communication - specifically email. I'll look out for that footage! I also spotted a
Time Out journalist.
Afterward a quick drink at a pub round the corner, the crowd moved to the
Utrophia studios in Greenwich to see
Sonic Pong. It was good to meet some familiar faces again, and try hard to actually remember a few names for once!
When I went to Sonic Pong on its opening day, it struck me just how well my theremin would fit in. So I've left it in the safe keeping of the studio until the exhibition closes. It was remarkable seeing people jamming with it. I can barely hit a note on it - and noone else could either. But people were thinking laterally - using its dynamic swoops and trills to make music. I'd never even thought about that - so I simply watched and learned.
Thanks to
jdcooper for being most pleasant and stimulating company for the evening. I was utterly amazed at his ability to jump straight into fluent french. I'm always in awe of language skills, mainly because after multiple attempts I've still yet to be fluent in anything besides English. Oh well - maybe I'll try again some day.
Tonight, I attempt a triple bill. Picking up my synth from Turnkey, saying hello to Free Repeater and Jason and the Astronauts at the Buffalo Bar, before heading off to a party in Kent. I'd rather like to see the bands, but I'm rather danced out at the moment, and a random party does sounds like a nice idea. Should be an interesting evening.
