More Kitten Questions

I definitely have a couple of unique kittens. I still can't tell if my Maine Coon mix kitten, Maxine, is definitely a girl or not. At first, I thought she was a boy. Then my friend insisted a couple of weeks later that she was definitely a girl. But this past week we have been looking and it seems like she might be a boy. It's really hard to ( Read more... )

They have both been to the vet a few times, but they always just took my wonder on gender and didn't check for it. You shouldn't make assumptions.

You should probably respond to the comment not your post so we know that you responded.

So if the cat has been to the vet why do you not call and ask them what they have it listed as? There is a place in every veterinary software program for M or F or S(payed) or (neutered). If your cat is listed as U(ndetermined) being there more than once and being so young then you need a new vet.

Undetermined is for things like: someone finds a 4 week old kitten on the side of the road and calls to set up an appointment and can not tell. or the cat is in a live trap and too freaked out for the person to check. Or for some species like young guinea pigs where it is really hard to tell. (at least *I* have trouble with guines pigs :P) Or young bearded dragons which are tricky. Its basically a setting for before the animal comes in - once the animal does come in it needs to be changed. Its one of those details that if it is not changed I wonder what else the vet did not pay attention to, you know?

I think you're misunderstanding the situation. The vet took my word for it about the gender, she didn't check. I just said Max was a girl. Now that I've been looking last night and today, I am pretty sure Max is a boy.

No I am not misunderstanding at all - I was responding to someone who said they did not know there was such a thing as 'undetermined' and I was responding to them telling them what that code is used for.
