I have a friend whose cat Rigby has the same problem, if he really doesn't eay try just mixing a spoonful of Metamusal or Benefiber(call your vet first to ask how big a spoonful) into his food. Get unflavored if he's picky, most cats don't like citrus flavoring

Instead of changing his foods and possibly upsetting him more why don't you try more Petromalt or Laxatone? A 2 inch strip a day might just do the trick because he is still going to the bathroom. Megacolon is usually much more serious and happens when they can not go at all for days because of a plug. he defining factor is the outpouchings/looseness/laxity/size of the large intestine which is hard to know for sure without xrays and/or a good rectal exam.

For sure ask your vet but that is what I would say. Good luck :)

I second the recommendation of Laxatone. There's a tuna-flavored version that my cats love.

With megacolon, there are usually indications of distress--you might see them straining and/or crying while they're trying to go, and they become lethargic and won't eat at all. They're also likely to vomit more than once, and they'll be dehydrated. (My female had megacolon and had to have her colon removed, so I'm very familiar with the signs.)

Definitely talk to your vet, but even if he's only pooping a little bit, that's better than not going at all.

I agree with what megm and karmen said. I think that the burping and gas and slight lack of appetite etc are all signs of his body adjusting to the fast food change. It's good as long as he is still pooping and I bet the Laxatone will help. But definitely try not to change his food again for a while unless you absolutely have to.\ and I think he will be back to his normal pooping and eating schedule soon.

I agree with the suggestions for laxatone. I used to work at a vets office and we had several animals that boarded with us that needed laxatone. It comes in different flavors I think and you put a 1-2 inch strip on their food. We had another cat that boarded with us that got a human herbal laxative every night, but I would talk to you vet before trying that, to make sure you get the right one. Don't quote me on this, but I think I read on another board the Innova Evo wasn't good for older cats because of the higher protein levels. It stresses their kidneys out if they have kidney trouble. Innova takes a while to adjust to BECAUSE of the higher protein levels, so that could be what is causing the smaller stools
