This week marks the 38th anniversary of Woodstock. Personally, I'm excited about
this commemorative particular event, partly because I've already checked out the festival grounds and it's pretty cool
, (sleeping bags and tents and all), partly because my Second Life (SL) cousin, Hope Clary* is the event organizer (and can be seen here in the sleeping bag), and partly because one of the islands where it is hosted (Nowhereville) will be my new SL home.
I've just decided to purchase land in Nowhereville, a sister island to Edloe, where this festival is happening. My land will be directly across the river from Hope, and on the same island with Tynan Clary, another cousin. Edloe, and now Nowhereville, are wonderful studies in how to balance individual ownership of land with community governance. I first heard about Edloe in
this podcast and was intrigued by the community they had established. Crap Mariner describes the model in more detail in
a summarized interview, and here are
some photos of a recent tour I had of Edloe.
*I've started the Clary clan for anyone with the last name of Clary, but Hope was the first cousin I connected with, so she has an extra special soft spot in my heart--plus we have helped each other with various fashion emergencies. If you are thinking of setting up a SL account and Clary is still available...feel free (or not!) to pick that last name and then we'll be related, LOL.
