Sad and heart-breaking! But beautifully written nonetheless, especially the very end.

Thanks. I don't know why, but I couldn't give this a happy ending. It seemed fake somehow.

So sad! Damn you, Mags! Why can't you retire with Charles and play chess? Is that so hard?

Great story!

Honestly, I might write a response to this from Erik's point of view. Your comment has inspired me to write an answer to that very question.

What I love most about this story is how it's rather fast-paced; a life in only 1000 words. And still it doesn't feel very fast at all, like you take plenty of time to write out every part of his life, which obviously means it's perfectly balanced.

Anyway, like the others say, it's beautifully written. Poetic, in a simplistic way. Sad, too, melancholic in a way, but I suppose also in character and I can imagine he doesn't even think of going looking for Magneto himself.

You are missing an extra space between the Erik paragraphs by the way.

And your icon of Amy is one of the prettiest I've ever seen!

Thanks for the really nice review. I think Charles is an interesting mix of arrogance and sadness. For him, his ideals have driven away those he loves, and I think he questions himself constantly. I think he's hurt by his actions and those of Magneto, and he thinks that searching for the one love of his life is too much temptation. Ultimately, Charles becomes broken by his own ambitions.

what space? i totally didn't have to fix that mistake at all. it was only three AM.

I wish I could credit the owner of that picture of Amy, but I have no idea who made it.
