Okay, this is my first attempt at any sort of fan fiction. Implying, of course, that this is my first attempt at any sort of Cath/Sara. If you'd like it to be continued, tell me. If not, we can just leave it where it stands.

Summary: Let's go out tonight!

Catherine slumped against the cold green tile of her bathroom wall. “Seafoam green,” the color was called. The blonde remembered choosing the color herself. Right now, however, the green looked less like sea foam and more like puke. Catherine groaned, wishing she could forget about her throbbing head and the double homicide she was still investigating. She was sick of working; she wanted to go out. Have some fun. Interesting, she thought, how that three- letter word could make so little sense right now. Fun. Who had time?

Catherine glanced down at the keys she still held in her hand. They were Sara’s office keys; she’d accidentally left them on Catherine’s desk. Catherine had been meaning to get them back to her. The blonde half- smiled, remembering how pretty Sara had looked sitting across from her on the other side of the desk, handing her photo after photo from a crime scene. How Sara had looked up suddenly, the sunlight coming in from the exposed window catching a link of gold from the delicate chain around her neck. Did Sara have time for fun? Probably not, Catherine thought realistically. Still, it never hurt to try. Catherine checked her watch. It was only five- thirty, plenty of time to call a sitter for Lindsey. Grinning, the CSI walked out of her bathroom and into her dining room, picking up the phone as she went.

Sara was sitting on the floor of her near- achingly lavender bedroom. Really, she was trying to meditate, but that wasn’t working out so well. Clearing her mind of all thoughts was harder than it sounded on the “Three Easy Steps to Enlightenment” CD that continued to play in the stereo system on top of Sara’s dresser. A soothing male voice kept telling her to “Forget the room around her.” Sara tried, but all she could think of was what had happened earlier that day, during work.

Perched on an upholstered chair on one side of Catherine’s desk, Sara had shown Catherine a boatload of crime scene photos, handing them to her to put on file. Sara thought about that, and remembered the concerned expression on Catherine’s face as she shuffled through the pictures. The piercing blue of her eyes when she asked Sara a question. Sara smirked. This was enlightening, all right.

A shrill ring startled Sara out of her fantasy. “Shit,” she said, a little shaken as she pressed the stop button on her CD player and picked up the phone.

“Hello?”

“Hey, Sara, it’s Cat,” the voice on the other end sounded hopeful.

Sara frowned, wondering why Catherine would bother calling her at 5:45 in the evening. “What’s up?” she asked.

“Um, I was wondering if you wanted to do something tonight,” Catherine sounded anxious.

“Tonight? Like, go out, you mean?” Sara regretted her choice of words as soon as they left her mouth.

“Uh, yeah. How does a club and dinner sound?”

Sara thought about it for a moment. Clubs weren’t really her thing, but she knew she’d have to be crazy to pass up something like this. “Sure!” she said brightly.

Catherine nearly sighed with relief. “Great!” she said. “I’ll pick you up, if you want.”

Sara nodded, then remembered that Catherine couldn’t see her through the phone. “Yeah,” she said, “That’d be great.”

“Cool,” Catherine smiled. “I’ll be there at eight.”

“Okay,” Sara grimaced inwardly, knowing she’d spend at least that time deciding what to wear.

The two women said goodbye and hung up. Neither of them knew what to do with themselves until seven- thirty.
