Yuletide fic rec: Solitude (Aubrey-Maturin novels aka Master & Commander)

Dec 26, 2012 13:09

Normally I save up a few recs so I'm not spamming with frequent posts, but I'm way behind where I usually am in Yuletide reading, so I'm going to just go ahead and rec this now--plus, it's that great. I expect I will group further recs, so you don't need to worry *too* much.<3

Anyone who has ever read even a paragraph of the Aubrey-Maturin books, run, do not walk, to this gorgeous story that is hilarious and pitch perfect and perfectly showcases the intimacy of Stephen and Jack's friendship, while showing that all people have secrets. Exquisitely written, the kind of story that makes you think about life and relationships and intimacy and friendship and yes, our ultimate solitude. Full of laugh out loud Aubrey attempts at puns (picture Stephen having to be *inside* Jack's head as he tries to work out puns ahaha) and wonderful adventures, too! This is the kind of story that satisfies the part of me that loves slash, even though there isn't any in it -- sort of isn't, sort of is (it's complex, just the way I love it)(p.s I'm almost 100% sure I know who wrote this, but that's irrelevant. Just playing the YT guessing game, but keeping mum)

Anyway, go, read... feast on some great, great writing:
