more good news from the flatlands

i recevied an email from the head of the East Asian Languages and Cultures deparment at the University of Illinois the other day, and she told me that they will be able to offer me a Fellowship rather than an assistantship, which means that i'll be making the same amount of money, but i won't have to teach. not only do i get to concentrate on my studies, but it may also free up time for me to fit in a class in Chinese language, which i really would like to do, but was afraid i wouldn't have the space in my schedule for it. and, of course, since Fellowships are so sought after, it says good things about the department's committment to my studies. i'm pretty pleased.
