For someone who doesn't watch a lot of television, I have had a surprising number of shows to which I have become addicted, years after they began. In the late 80's it was reruns of Remington Steele. Then I fell for The X-Files in 1997 while off my feet for 2 weeks following bunion surgery, and the FX channel just happened to start daily broadcast of the entire series, from the beginning, on the day of my surgery. Later it was Buffy, which I discovered in its third season. And then my dearly departed Farscape. Although I was a Farscape fan right from the first episode.
Two days ago I rented the first DVD of Alias, which I have never seen because it is on at the same time as one of my husband's beloved Law and Order shows. I have spent (some would say wasted, and I couldn't disagree!) over 6 hours in two nights watching the first few episodes of this show, and I'm trying to work out when I can watch the remaining three episodes on the DVD before I have to return it.
At least since the invention of DVD, I won't end up with a drawer full of tapes I'll never watch again. Still, it is clearly the beginning of another obsession. Is there a 12-step program for this?
