Fabric topology vs. hair fibres

Occasionally I buy clothes and then have to get rid of them because the omnipresent cat fur gloms right onto the fabric to a much greater extent than normal. Most of this stuff is cotton, so I assume that it's differences in weave that cause this, although I guess it could be differences in grade.

Does anyone know? Can you take a loupe into a clothing store and pick out the non-furmagnets?
