Ok so ive seen this meme all over the place and i decided to do it.... but imma split mine into two, one for non-asian cds, and one for asian cds.
This is supposed to be the top 10 cds of your life, but seeing as im only 22, i have no doubt that they will change as i get older, for now though these are the 10 cds that got me through high school, cds i loved so much by bands i love, bands i managed to luckily see each one of live at least once. I also had to limit my bright eyes and Super Junior choices to just one cd each, or i would have filled the top 10 with just bright eyes cds and Super junior cds :3.
Number 1 - Wheatus by Wheatus
Why? - because when i was 12 and just seriously getting into rock music, this was the first cd my mum bought me (other than travis cds...) I loved it so much and i listened to it relentlessly, i even did all my woodwork/it work based on the album cover for my first year of high school. I still love it and its one of those cds you can leave on repeat for hours and not realise.
Number 2 - Leaving through the window by Something Corporate
why? - Because when something corporate first released their music video for If U C Jordan, i fell in love, this was their first full length and despite the condition my copy is in now, i listen to it regularly, mostly in my Dads car- it was the first time i liked a band and my dad agreed they were good... he might even listen to them more than me. I still have the hoodie i got from their concert when i was 14... and i still wear it! I even sang Cavanaugh park infront of my music class in year 9 for our exam.
Number 3 - Fever and Mirrors by Bright Eyes
why? - everyone who knows me knows how much i love bright eyes, no matter what style of music ive been into, since i was 12 Conor Oberst has held a big place in my heart, Ive bought every cd hes ever had a hand in because theres just something about his voice that hits my soul, Fevers and mirrors was the first bright eyes album i owned for myself, because before i had a credit card and use of the internet i used to have to go into Picadilly Records in manchester and they would order in the cds i wanted for me. If we ever move house, whoever gets my room, when they go to redecorate will find the Lyrics to the calander hung itself and Haligh Haligh a lie Haligh underneath the wallpaper written in a horrible green pen directly onto the wall. This year will be the last year bright eyes will perform, with Conor giving up on the project after over a decade to focus on his other projects and bands, i am lucky enough to have tickets to go, thanks to my mum :3.
Number 4 - This is really neat by Crackout
why? - I was about... 13 when me and one of my friends got into crackout, we saw one of their videos on Kerrang! of all places, and just fell in love. I got to the stage where i was a regular and well known member of their forums, using the stupid name of 'gaynessinapinkfluffybag', I love this cd so much, and i was lucky enough to get it signed by the boys at one of their last ever concerts before they disbanded. Nicholad Millard (the drummer) even complimented me on my homemade crackout shirt and said he had seen my posts on the forums. i nearly cried that day.... and i was 17 by then!!
Number 5 - A Mark, A Mission, A Brand, A Scar by Dashboard Confessional
why? - well it might not be Dashboards most popular album, with all their newer releases and those ever incessant Screaming Infidelities fans, but its my favourite, i bought it when i was 14, again from picadilly records, and i never stopped listening to the cd - until i lost it, well... not lost so much as left it at a party my... sort of ex's current partner was having, from what i can tell she kept a hold of it for years until it got lost when she was moving house, still, i have a crappy copy of it i burned off my old computer and i still listen to it a lot, Hands down will always be a song i love, it reminds me of a summer a long time ago when i first learnt what it felt like to be in love. And of dancing like an idiot at stockport student union.
Number 6 - So long astoria by the Ataris
Why? - im not sure why tbh, again, its not the most popular Ataris album, and Teenage Riot will always be a classic amongst most circles, i myself have all of the Ataris albums (mostly living in my dads car :B) but theres something magical about this album, either its the goonies references or that Kris Roe wrote a song to a dying fan, the song reminds me of the last years of high school and also of an ex boyfriend who loved them as passionatly as me. Sure the cover of boys of summer is kind of appaling, but the rest of the album just hits the spot :3
Number 7 - Stay what you are by Saves the Day
why? - i actually borrowed this cd from a guy i liked when i was...13? maybe 14, either way i never gave the cd back because i fell so in love with it he told me to keep it, i had already heard quite a bit of Saves the day but when this album came out i thought it was so beautiful, Most people have heard at your funeral and misheard the lyrics as "if i farted in your house", but theres never a time i dont love this cd, its also awesome to drive to.
Number 8 - Portions for Foxes by Rilo Kiley
why? - well, im quite a big Rilo Kiley fan anyway, theres something spectacular about Jenny Lewis' voice, this particular album was released during my last year at high school, I had just seen Rilo Kiley supporting Bright Eyes and Modest Mouse live and i was dating a guy i thought at the time was great for me (turns out he was possesive and a little bit on the controlling side) i listened to the cd on repeat for weeks, Jennys singing on I never still makes the hairs on my arms and neck stand on end, its just a beautiful album that was put together so well!
Number 9 - What It Is To Burn by Finch
Why? - im sure everyone my age remembers the single of Letters to you coming out, i certainly do, i was going through a big Drive Thru records phase at the time (that im not sure im out of yet...) so i already knew who Finch were through other Drive Thru bands, but this single just blew me away, i bought the cd as soon as it came out and i just fell in love.
Number 10 - Good News for People who Love Bad News by Modest Mouse
Why? - Well Modest Mouse are just amazing, but i adooore this CD, me and my brother make a point of going to see Modest Mouse live whenever they tour, this album is just amazing though, im not really sure why its my favourite, maybe float on is just that amazing a song :D. But either way its brilliant and i love it and thats why its in my top ten!
Asian Top 10
Number 1 - The First album ME by Super junior M
why? - SJM is and always will be my favourite sub group of Super Junior, and no, that isn't because Donghaes in it (although it helps), although a lot of people hated it (and still do) i think the addition of zhou mi and Henry was a wonderful idea that added even variety to super junior, Henrys violin added a new entity to this subgroup with something a little bit new, Zhou Mi is just a big personality aswell. This cd is my favourite Asian cd because of Me and Ai ni Ai ni, which were two of the most energetic and happy songs to come out of SM for a while, and idk... i just love it? theres not a song on the album i dont like, and it was so interesting hearing the chinese versions of some of super juniors best songs.
Im biased, what can i say :D!
Number 2 - Rainies Proclamatian (Not yet a woman) by Rainie Yang
why? - Although i love Rainies cutesy songs, and theres nobody to deny that girl can whip out a ballad like nobodys buisness, this album is just so different to everything else shes ever done, although its her not yet a woman album this is the most mature shes ever done, and the singing style on her songs is much more grown up. Not to mention her new mature image was kicked off by this album. It was a big leap forward to her and a beautiful album that its hard to just NOT love :D!
Number 3 - Here i am (the 5th album) by Kim Jonh Kook
why? - although not his most popular album (seeing as it lacks sarang surowo - known by even people who arent a KJK fan) this is my favourite Captain Beefy album, his first since leaving the army, i actually bought this cd in LA's koreatown after oggling online for a long time, his voice is as always perfect and its just a spectacularly well done that never fails to make me smile.
Number 4 - Love Hero by Huang Hong Sheng (alien huang)
why? - despite Xiao Gui's cute and funny (if slightly retarded) appearance alongside Show on 100% entertainment, this album is FABULOUS, its rocky, its upbeat, its just intense! Everyone neglects the fact that Xiao gui was in a boyband long before he was ever a host, his singing is beautiful and its just a fantastic album with no faults, for anyone who hasn't i recommend checking it out. now. right now! This cd is never very far away from my cd player.
Number 5 - Super Junior 05 by Super Junior
why? - well you must all have been waiting for a super junior entry, i sat looking at each of the albums for a long time before i decided to put which one in, and in the end i opted for this one. Miracle is still my all time favourite super junior song, i walk around humming and whistling it and getting it stuck in peoples heads all the time, cause hey, Life couldnt get better with these boys around (ouch i know bad joke), Way for love is also one of my favourites, along with You are the one being my favourite super junior ballad. Its their fresh, unrefined perfect first album, and yes i know theres no kyuhyun, but then... we didnt know there was going to be at that point, so it doesnt even matter. Its a perfect album that i can listen to more than any of the others, and its bloody fantastic to drive to. Not to say i dont love all their other albums too, just that i only wanted to pick one.
Number 6 - High Society by Epik High
why? - this is still my favourite Epik High album, although Lovescream is a close second, its all about the bouncyness in this album though, Day of Peace leading that, its just such a lively album, and the members were still young and not running their own label, they had time to just dick around, write songs and film somewhat silly mvs. I do love the other epik high albums but this is still my favourite, It reminds me of being in LA with
2thechangmin and listening to it in her car!! :D
Number 7 - Magic power by Magic power
why? - it wasn't even that long ago i got into Magic Power, must be about a year? im not even sure, all i know is the first time i heard them i fell in love, this is their first and only album so far and i am hungry for more. They have a style of music ive never even heard before and their Song wo shi shei wo shi shei wo shi shei is just beautiful, ive never fell in love with a song so instantly before, also this cd is amazing for the way its packaged, if youve never seen it, the album itself has a ..slidy... clear and black strip... plastic... thing around it, and when you move it, a different members shows up one at a time, very fast. its just funky. Also their song with Amber Guo is another thing that makes this album perfect. I hope they release something new again soon!
Number 8 - Rashomon (repackage 3D version) by Luo Zhi Xiang (Show Luo)
why? - im a big show fan, hes gorgeous, funny and an amazing host, entertainer and actor, but as ive said a hundred times, show... cannot sing, not very well anyway, but his songs are so catchy it doesnt even matter, this album is in my top ten because he doesnt even need to sing to make this album amazing, the songs remind you of events in hi my sweetheart, and if they dont, you just love them, im not even sure how i lived before he released "爱疯头", if you havent heard it, listen to it on youtube, its over taken every other show song ever as my favourite, this was a brilliant album and the inclusion of a dvd of his 3D mv for "舞法舞天" makes it all the better (even though the crappy paper glasses dont work so brilliantly). Also the inclusion of In your eyes with rainie yang and WOW with Elva Hsiao makes it an even better album. LOVE. IT.
Number 9 - Cell by Plastic Tree
why? - it took me a while to pick which plastic tree album to put here, Plastic tree are just... Anyone who saw me after their london show knows what im getting at here, i was downright hysterical... i LOVE plastic tree, even if i drifted away from the Jrock scene a little bit, the second i find out plastic tree might ever come back im there in a heartbeat, I picked cell because its probably the album ive listened to most. its the only reason really. Plastic Tree just needed to be on here.
Number 10 - Its Hyorish by Lee Hyori
why? - people can say what they like about hyori, that shes a whore, that shes talentless, i say WHATEVER to you, that lady is damn fine and she sings in this amazing voice i cant really compare to another, the songs on this album are fantastic, U Go Girl has become a Kpop classic and just... listen to the album, even if you dont think you like hyori its totally worth it. Its catchy, its dancable (me and my flat mate can tell you that now) and its friggen AWESOME to drive to in the summer :D!
okaii so i finished. i hope... someone reads this, idek :D!
